Film screening: Human Capital (San Francisco)

Opening on 16 January at the Opera Plaza

“Captivating from start to finish” -- The Hollywood Reporter “Engrossing, stinging…The performances are flawless” – Variety Directed by acclaimed Italian director Paolo Virzì, the award-winning film HUMAN CAPITAL is a nuanced account of desire, greed and the value of human life in an age of rampant capitalism and financial manipulation. HUMAN CAPITAL begins as a cyclist is run off the road by a careening SUV on the night before Christmas Eve. As details emerge of the events leading up to the accident, the lives of the privileged Bernaschi family will intertwine with the middle-class Ossola family. Dino Ossola (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) is in dire financial straits, anticipating the birth of twins with his second wife (Valeria Golino). Meanwhile, Dino’s teenage daughter’s relationship with the son of hedge-fund manager Giovanni Bernaschi (Fabrizio Gifuni) and detached wife (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi) complicates a dance of status, money and ambition. HUMAN CAPITAL won 7 David di Donatello Awards, including Best Film, Best Actress and Best Screenplay, and won the Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Actress award for Valeria Bruni Tedeschi’s performance.
