La piazza intorno alla palla
VIII Annual Italian Language Week

In anticipation of the 8th Annual Italian Language Week, the Istituto presents a photography exhibit of the ancient ballgame Palla Eh! (also known as Palla 21).The exhibit is a series of images taken from the late ‘70’s to the present in six hilltop towns in Tuscany, the only places where the ballgame is still played. This 16th century precursor to tennis, in which a ball is thrown between two teams, is played in the town piazza, a central theme in this year’s Italian Language Week.
The exhibit includes winning photographs from the competition Chi la vede è bravo, which took place during the Palla 21/Palla Eh! tournament during the summer of 2008 amongst the Tuscan villages of Vetulonia, Scalvaia, Ciciano, Piloni, Torniella e Tirli).
Organized by Andrea Giacomelli with the Association pibinko.org and with the support of the Palla Eh! community, this exhibit is supported by the Regione Toscana, the Department of Culture of the Province of Grosseto, the Comune di Roccastrada and the Toscana Foto Festival.
Presented in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Chicago.
Admission is free.
